About ZEE

Zero Emissions Enterprise is an international network of researchers focused on SMEs and climate change

The ZEE Network was formed in 2021 by Tina Fawcett, Richard Blundel, Sam Hampton and Will Eadson.

The network provides an opportunity for the research community to collaborate and share knowledge. It acts as a valuable touchpoint for business and policy stakeholders seeking research evidence on SMEs and environmental change.

The Zero Emissions Enterprise (ZEE) network is a community of researchers who are focused on understanding and promoting the role of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the transition to net zero. The network was founded in 2021, initially launched as a UK-only network. In 2023, having brought together over 70 researchers, we expanded the network to include international members. Our members have diverse specialist experience, and approach thie topic of climate change and SMEs from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. Our aims include:

  • Improving access to relevant research-based insights and expertise.

  • Facilitating collective responses to public consultations and calls for evidence.

  • Organising online and in-person events for researchers and policymakers.

  • Promoting new research collaborations between members and others.

The ZEE network website focuses on research projects, publications and other outputs that examine the decarbonisation of SMEs.  If you are searching for practical advice,  including specific actions to reduce your own business energy use and emissions, there are a number of useful websites available, including the following:
