UN Global Compact

In October 2022, ZEE Member Prof Laura Spence visited the UN Global Compact in New York.

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a global, voluntary initiative to promote responsible business. Based on a commitment to follow its ten principles, businesses and other organisations communicate their progress regularly in a formal report to UNGC. The ten principles relate to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. Naturally, the Global Compact engages closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and more focused initiatives such as NetZero, with training modules offering education and support. Zero Emissions Enterprise network member Professor Laura Spence spent some time with the UNGC office in October 2022, advising on their SME strategy, which much like the work of the ZEE network is focused on meaningfully reaching and supporting the majority business form – small and medium sized enterprises.
